FFA Soil Judging Team Takes First Place!

Windham Regional FFA Soil Judging team from the Windham Regional Career
Center took first place in the State Soil judging Competition.
For the
15th year in a row, the Windham Regional FFA Soil Judging team from the Windham
Regional Career Center took first place in the State Soil judging Competition on
October 15, 2009 at Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT.
Over 125
students from 10 different schools throughout the state competed in this
contest. Twenty two students competed for the Windham Regional FFA and our
school had 7 students place in the top 10. Elizah Temple placed first, Heidi
Matthews placed second, and Aaron Hardy placed fourth. These three students
formed the winning team in the state which scored 66 points higher than the 2nd
place team.
The Windham Regional FFA, which consists of students from the
Forestry & Natural Resources and the Horticulture & Landscape Technology
Programs, spent 2 weeks studying soils to prepare for the state contest. By
placing first in the state contest, the Windham Regional FFA will now get to
represent the state of Vermont in the National Land and Range Judging
competition which will be held May 6, 2010 in Oklahoma City, OK. To prepare,
students will be fundraising money to help cover the cost of traveling to
Oklahoma as well as studying to compete in the National
Contest.
