Overview:

Small farms are an important part of our local economy and food system. Successful farms are diversified, producing many products throughout the differing seasons. This class will model local farming systems through direct experience, related academics, farm visits and community projects. Students enrolled in this class will learn and experience an array of farming topics specifically popular to our region. The class will cover production of quality Vermont products including: Greenhouse and field products, maple, fruit and berry production, value added products such as jam, soap, and candles, animal products including meat, eggs and honey, and use of equipment related to the industry. Students will gain certification in First Aid and CPR. Students will become FFA members.
